I’ve left Los Angeles now, and I’m heading north along California Route 1, also known as the iconic Pacific Coast Highway. Although I’m excited for what lies ahead, I can’t help but think back to the three amazing days I spent in L.A.
Wanted to share just a few memories from my time there:
- Griffith Observatory and Los Angeles beyond from my perch atop Mount Hollywood
- Is this heaven or the Getty Center?
- The sweetest strawberries I’ve ever had, courtesy of the Hollywood Farmer’s Market.
- A wonderful sunny sendoff. Thank you L.A.!
I’ve already begun capturing images from the next leg of  this journey. In a word: stunning. Can’t wait to share.

I visited San Luis Obispo just last month to help my 88-year-old great-aunt check off an item on her bucket list: a hot-air balloon ride, which is possible out of Paso Robles (on the 101). It was teh awsum, and she said it exceeded her expectations. I hope that *your* trip exceeds your expectations!
Amy–you are the sweetest! I bet your great-aunt had a great time–how wonderful for you to be a part of it. As for this trip exceeding my expectations…it already has! Thanks bunches for the well-wishes. 🙂
Looking at the skyline in this picture, it makes me believe that Los Angeles is a huge sprawled out city, kind of like my own state capital, Melbourne, Victoria on steroids. I say this because Melbourne is a city that has a similar skyline and is over 60 miles east to west and about the same from its northern outskirts to the southern most point on the Mornington Peninsula. Population wise Melbourne is a touch over 4 million, Sydney at about 4.3 million versus what I believe is over 7 million for LA.
Hopefully the traffic wasn’t too nasty for you. Los Angeles is known the world over for its traffic. Australia included. The media here often compare the peak hour traffic in Melbourne and Sydney to that of Los Angeles when they do stories about the worsening traffic and sadly we’re becoming more like Los Angeles all the time if the media is to be believed.
You’re absolutely right, Matt. Los Angeles is HUGE! Every time I thought I’d left the city, there was more city ahead. I’ve never seen a city this big before, and I’ll admit it was a bit intimidating at first, but once you get out from behind the wheel and on your feet, it’s amazing.
