Capturing the Colors of San Francisco

August 13, 2012 by Marsha S.

I heard about a photoblogging contest in which travel bloggers are asked to produce a post sharing photos from their travels that highlight or represent five colors (blue, green, yellow, white, and red). While I’m technically not entering the competition, I fell in love with the idea. I decided to showcase colors from just one place (in this case the San Francisco Bay Area) but then I couldn’t resist sharing a few photos where all five of the colors showed up at once.

Blue

Boats at a marina in Sausalito, just north of San Francisco

Green

The coastal redwoods in Muir Woods National Monument, a short trip from the city

Yellow

The warm glow of the searchlight during the Alcatraz night tour

White

San Francisco’s famous fog rolling in over the bay

Red

Everybody in the pool!

Which color most inspires you to travel?

Great pics, Marsha! I especially love the one straight up through the trees and the shot of the fog over the bay. Gives me shivers (in a good way). 🙂

It’s amazing…the photo of the fog didn’t stun me at all on its own, but when it’s viewed between other more colorful photos, the lack of color really stands out. Glad you liked it!

What an awesome idea to choose pics from the same city! I love the red purses.

Thanks, Scott. When I Ekua invited me to join, the first photo I thought of was one I’d taken in San Francisco and it just grew from there. I love the red purses too…just wish I’d bought one when I had the chance, lol!

I’m honored that you chose to focus on my city even if you’re not officially entering! The white photo is sooo accurate. Before I decided to stick to Oaxaca, various pictures of SF fog kept popping up… you know you live in SF when you have a bazillion photos of fog 😛

Beautiful pics! I really need to get out and explore more of my own (adopted) city!

Thanks, Jill! I love San Francisco, but I can see how it’s easy to neglect your own neck of the woods in favor of far-flung places. Hope you get to explore San Francisco a bit more before you go exploring again!
