I knew moving to Seattle in 2013 would change my life in a big way, but I didn’t anticipate that adjusting to my new life would mean a prolonged break from blogging. And while I’ve had to put Wanderlust for One on the back burner for a few years, I’ve always been confident I would pick up and start blogging again when the time was right.
I’m grateful for the time I’ve spent away from this space. It’s been nearly four years, and instead of causing my interest to wane, the separation has reaffirmed my passion for blogging and specifically, blogging about travel. Normally, I would have moved on to some other interest by now, but I keep coming back to this: traveling and telling stories with words and images. It’s time. Wanderlust for One rides again.
What’s Different
What’s changed? Me. I’m four years older and four years wiser. And during the past few years, I’ve acquired some new skills that will make this site a place you’ll want to visit again and again, featuring content that’s informative, entertaining, and inspiring. Other changes you’ll see as you browse the site include:
- A new tagline. That old bit about Noah’s ark felt tired, unrelatable, and didn’t adequately express the heart of what I’m trying to build, so I’ve replaced it with one I feel more accurately reflects the heart of this space: The World on Your Own Terms.
- Higher quality content. I’ve been blogging since 2010 and in the beginning, I had little idea what I was doing. Some of the site’s earliest posts were low-quality and, frankly, not helpful. I’ve archived them so they no longer appear on the site.
- Mobile-friendliness. I’ve updated the site’s look and feel, including a fresh mobile-optimized design. Now you’ll have a great experience here whether you’re on your desktop or your smartphone.
What’s Staying the Same
I’ll continue to write exclusively about solo travel, and even though I’m intrigued by luxury travel, I’m always going to be concerned about how to travel alone on a budget. I believe the best part of travel are the things you can’t put a price tag on.
What’s Next
I’ve already been on a few trips in 2017, with a weeklong solo travel road trip to California’s Central Coast and Los Angeles, a long weekend camping and sightseeing in British Columbia, and a day trip to San Francisco, so get ready for some upcoming content about these destinations. I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
